I think we need to have a knock-down, drag-out podcast brawl over Ballast. I like it quite a bit. I'm the world's biggest fan of Charles Burnett, and I'm an admirer of David Gordon Green and Terrance Mallick, but I just don't see the resemblance to Ballast at all. If anything Hammer is borrowing from the Dardennes (of whom I'm also a huge fan). But transplanting their view from Belgium to Mississippi is an outstanding idea.

By the way, "ballast" is usually pronounced with the emphasis on the first syllable, no?

hey Rob, thanks for listening to the show. I look forward to the tustle between you and Cathy once Ballast comes out officially.

I think the Dardennes comparison is a good one but the characters in Ballast are infinitely more enjoyable to spend time with.

Hopefully we can catch up a bit at SFIFF next week!
